ABSTRACT:
Students are confronted daily with situations that require skills in assertiveness and how to effectively communicate refusal to inappropriate peer requests. Providing explicit instruction in student rights, responsibilities and assertiveness, especially saying, “No”, empowers students to advocate for themselves. This article contains practical examples, scenarios, vocabulary and lessons educators can incorporate to teach assertiveness in their classes.
