ABSTRACT:
Many young women with disabilities face significant barriers in making the transition from high school to productive employment and meaningful careers. The Career Connections curriculum was designed to address those barriers and meet the unique career development and transition needs of young women with disabilities in high school. Program participants learn about self-advocacy, gender equity, leadership, and workforce issues while exploring a wide range of career options. This article provides an overview of the Career Connections curriculum as well as sample lessons and activities from each of the four major modules including:(a) self-awareness, (b) disability awareness, (c) gender roles and issues, and (d) career planning.
