Environmental Studies Program at Boston College

The Environmental Studies Program at Boston College actively seeks to explore and compare the characteristics of and threats to ecosystems across the globe. We take pride in focusing on the unique crossroads of the natural and developed worlds. Whereas in the past ecologists tended to consider urban centers as somehow exempt from ecological status and consideration, we now know that the health, economy and overall quality of life of people who live in cities are greatly dependant upon the state of plants, wildlife and natural resources in those cities. Our interdisciplinary approach to urban ecology and our partnerships with the Urban Ecology Institute and the multi-city Urban Ecology Collaborative provide students with many challenging opportunities for rigorous coursework and independent research.
